Où Elvia et Jérémy découvrent quelques habitations au détour d'une balade chez le poissonnier,
où émerge un abris sans doute caché,
où apparaît le bien nommé Joe la Bouteille,
où nécessité faisant loi, les artistes décident d'intervenir.
Où l'on rend à Joe ce qui appartient à Joe.
Bottle Joe project began during a recent residency at Est-Nord-Est in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli. It consisted of a subtle intervention within the environment of an abandoned cottage where a certain Bottle Joe had previously been a squatter. But Joe seemed to have disappeared. As the cottage was falling apart, the artists decided to give Joe a Hand.

Se promener, errer quoi, être là parce que tu as été invité, ne pas savoir comment t'habiller, sortir muni de toutes les options, attendre de buter sur quelque chose.
According to people living around, Bottle Joe is an atypical character, so-named for having smashed a bottle over a guy’s head. “The rest of the world has a groundhog to signify the beginning of spring; we had Joe. When
we would see his calves, we would know that spring would be around the corner!”.En s'intéressant au cabanon de Joe la Bouteille, en y faisant des aller-retour, Elvia et Jérémy ont commencé à attirer l'attention sur eux. Il semblait que la disparition soudaine de Joe et la fin annoncée de sa cabane soient un soulagement pour certains des voisins.
While the two artists tried to repair Joe's house, a big car was passing by and passing by and ... The neighbourhood would have prefer that Elvia and Jeremy go their way... It was clear.
Alors comment faire pour que la maison reste alors que les artistes auraient à rentrer chez eux et ne seraient plus là pour la veiller ?
And yet this old abandoned cottage tells more about a period in time, about a town, about an atypical character, about a society, than all the conventional homes of the neighborhood. It is precisely for this reason that this cottage intrigued them, because they detected the narrative force of this neglected property.
En réalité, retirer discrètement des éléments du mobilier, un pied de table, un manche de râteau, les sculpter, puis les remettre à leur place dans la maison a été une manière de transformer le quotidien en une installation artistique. En somme de faire bénéficier à la trivialité du quotidien, le sacré que la société confère à l'oeuvre d'art. Impossible d'y toucher désormais.
For the project, the artists hand crafted items from the architecture, furnitures and various everyday objects left behind. The meaning of this in situ intervention lies in the ambiguity of the artistic act, between fiction and reality; it is a sort of rural street art, between joke and present to casual passersby, between tribute and spotlight on this non-architecture, this no-man’s-land (or rather, one-man’s-land) intruding on the landscape of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli.
Dispersés dans le paysage, les restes de Joe la Bouteille, ainsi nommé pour avoir fracassé une bouteille sur la tête d'un gars. Joe était un personnage atypique de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli.
It is really about bringing to light the idea of the “non-conventional,” of the “overlooked” individual in a rural society that has itself become smoothed over and conventional; it is about paying tribute to this “historic figure” as such as in many towns, an atypical storybook character.
Joe embodies the figure of marginality, which will disappear with the cottage, leaving the space to much more industrial development.
So on this narrow property, art and craft meet with local sociology (a little ironically), for a fictional rumor whose obscure meaning might lie in what artists call the “beaver syndrome,” a supplemental

où ils font des fouilles archéologiques pour rigoler,
où émergent des ruines provenant de strates temporelles inconnues,
où ré-apparaît le fantôme du bien nommé Joe la Bouteille,
où nécessité faisant loi, les artistes décident d'intervenir.
Où l'on n'oublie pas ce-ux qui étaient là.
Other time, other story ?
Elvia and Jérémy were invited to Anvers in Belgium for an art residency. After few days hanging around, the artists understood that they might be the last inhabitants of the place. You laugh ? Look : this place is going to close because the art center should move. Since the decision was taken, people started to forget things, to let their marks, maybe to forget or abandon themselves within the place ?

Et découvrir qu'on est les derniers. L'endroit va fermer, il faut déblayer. Ça fait quelques temps que c'est décidé. En sursis, les lieux patientent, concrétionnent, pourrissent en un dernier sursaut, enfantent un humus gras, ne pas se laisser oublier.
